From Kim Kardashian to Miley Cyrus to Katy Perry - it seems that latex is the hottest material around for a celeb looking to turn heads right now. Usually in bright, poppy colours and with silhouettes a little more demure and less out-rightly kinky, we've seen dozens of examples of celebs taking the rubber to the red carpet for an alternative to traditional fashion. But what about other ways celebs have incorporated kink into their award night or media event photo-ops?
Here we've compiled a list of our 7 top moments of when celebrities bought BDSM-inspired looks to the red carpet.
1. AMBER ROSE At the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards
Amber Rose kicks of our list with this red PVC catwoman-meets-Madonna-meets-dominatrix inspired look at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.
Complete with a half-mask, flogger, fishnets and sky-high thigh-highs, Amber's outfit matched the red hue of the photo walk carpet and leaves no doubt in our mind: this is kinky.
2. Kendall Jenner
At the 2019 Emmy Awards
Kendall Jenner's look here is probably the most recent example on our list - and we love it. Dressed in the haute couture look fresh off the runway of designer Richard Quinn's 2020 Spring collection, Kendall dons a floral satin gown layered over a oil-slick black latex turtleneck.
This is giving us major inspo for layering latex with traditional garments.
3. Adam Rippon
At the 2018 Academy Awards
USA's champion figure skater Adam Rippon attended the 2018 Academy Awards in another look we love for inspiration on how to mix kink and high fashion.
The look was designed by Jeremy Scott - who's eclectic (and often kink-inspired!) collections make headlines each year - and features a leather harness layered under his finely-tailored tux jacket, which also has harness shoulder detailing. There's even a leather bow tie and a satin cummerbund to boot. The perfect mix of class and kink.
4. Nikita Dragun
At the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards
When Nikita Dragun turned up to the 2019 MTV VMAs with three male model slave boys crawling behind her the internet went into shock mode. There was a lot to be said about the social media influencer's look, which combined Nikita dolled-up a la Marilyn Monroe trailed by Matrix-looking slave boys - but we love it.
But it seems she wasn't the first celeb to incorporate D/s into their VMA entrance...
5. Snoop Dogg
At the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards
Sixteen years earlier, in 2003, Snoop Dogg turned up to the VMAs with a couple of gals collared and leashed, sans the crawling.
We can't tell if this example is a more subtle or more literal nod to D/s than Nikita's instance, but nonetheless it's a key moment of when a celeb chose to bring kink to the red carpet and thus it makes it onto our list!
6. Lady Gaga
At SiriusXM Studios, 2011
There's no doubt about it - we're gaga for Gaga and her fashion. The songstress has donned many a carpet in BDSM-inspired outfits, though we chose this one to be on our list as it is a little more literal than some of her other looks (hello Meat Dress and meeting Queen Elizabeth in a head-to-toe red latex gown).
Gaga wore this look to attend "The Howard Stern Show" at SiriusXM Studios in 2011 - giving full Domina vibes in all black.
7. Nicki Minaj
At the 2017 MTV Music Video Awards
This bubblegum pink look - designed by Vex Latex - is surely a nod to Nicki Minaj's alter ego "Harajuku Barbie". Her candy-coloured strappy crop top and high waisted leggings, matched with a split blonde and pink weave and rhinestone jewels (note the Christian crosses layered with a razor blade), are a little less of an obviously kinky choice than some of our other looks here on the list. Hell, we'd even mistake it for casual-wear here at Demasque. So cute!
